After leaving transitional housing, formerly incarcerated individuals face major barriers to finding housing:

• Background checks are still allowed in the rental process. 

• Credit checks are usually required to be accepted as a renter.

• ​

In response, Mass Liberation created "Next-Step" housing:

• Provides rooms or apartments with leases to those who have successfully completed transitional housing programs.

• Allows individuals to pay monthly rent without facing housing discrimination.

• Helps them build rental history and practice paying bulls responsibly and on time.
