4-week Reentry Course
For Returning Citizens who have been released from incarceration recently, we offer a four-week course that covers a wide range of topics in

When citizens have completed Mass Liberation courses, they continue to work with a ‘Citizen Coach,’ a person with lived experience who has successfully navigated their own reentry, who assists them in finding housing and employment opportunities and in successfully achieving their transitional goals.
Transitional Housing Programs
Transitional housing is a welcoming place to stay directly upon release from incarceration. In these programs, residents participate in classes and chores, follow a curfew, and abstain from substance use. At Mass Liberation’s programs, residents can stay for free and have enough autonomy to start building their lives back up after long prison terms.
Liberty House:
For up to 18 men (2 people per room)
Eligibility Requirements
Men serving 10+ years in prison:

Completion of 2 or more rehabilitative programs in the last 5 years
-
High School Diploma or GED
-
Participation in Mass Liberation's 4-week reentry classes
-
Pre-release eligibility may be considered if participants begin the curriculum prior to release (a minimum of 3 modules must be completed to apply for housing).
-
Not required to have intensive medical or clinical mental health monitoring and treatment

Harbor House:
For up to 8 individuals (2 people per room) who identify as LGBTQ+.
Eligibility Requirements
Released within 6–12 months after serving 7+ years in prison:

Completion of 2 or more rehabilitative programs
-
High School Diploma or GED
-
Participation in Mass Liberation's 4-week reentry classes
-
Pre-release eligibility may be considered if participants begin the curriculum prior to release (a minimum of 3 modules must be completed to apply for housing).

Next-Steps’ Housing
After leaving transitional housing, even when a formerly incarcerated individual faces major barriers to finding housing:

Background checks are still allowed in the rental process.
-
Credit checks are usually required to be accepted as a renter.
-
These factors make it extremely difficult to secure an apartment or even a single room.
In response, Mass Liberation created "Next-Step" housing:
-
Provides rooms or apartments with leases to those who have successfully completed transitional housing programs.
-
Allows individuals to pay monthly rent without facing housing discrimination.
-
helps them build rental history and practice paying bulls responsibly and on time.

Vocational Training
In partnership with Southwest College, Mass Liberation provides:
General technology and employment preparation.
hands-on training and certifications in sectors with steady hiring in LA County.

At the end of training, Returing Citizens receive job placement assistance to begin their career paths.

Re-Entry Correspondence Program
Across every CDCR institution in California. Mass Liberation’s curriculum is designed to help participants prepare for their return to society, and it was created by a team with a diversity of reentry, social science, and legal expertise.
Program Structure:
Each Module includes:

Informational one-pagers on reentry topics.

Interactive activities that require participants to personally engage with what they've learned.
Participant Support:
Individuals receive personalized written feedback in their responses.
Ongoing dialogue with staff and volunteers, tailored to their answers and questions.
Impact:

Participants gain a clearer understanding of what to expect after release.

They learn actionable steps they can begin while still incarcerated to prepare for reentry.
Employment at Mass Liberation
Mass Liberation makes it a priority to hire and empower people with lived experience. Over 80% of Mass Liberation’s staff at any given time is formerly incarcerated.
